Safety-Kleen Rolls out first event in the Safety-Kleen Driver Challenge

Charlotte, N.C. – With a desire to enhance safe driving practices among employees, Safety-Kleen held the first event in the 2011 Safety-Kleen Driver Challenge at the zMax Dragway in Charlotte, North Carolina. Competitors, who were selected to compete due to their outstanding safe driving records, negotiated their way through a driving course designed to test skills that are faced on a daily basis. After driving through tight corners, tackling difficult reversing maneuvers and navigating around various obstacles, competitors were judged according to their driving ability. At the end of the day, six drivers advanced to the finals to be held on October 6, 2011 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Each event will test drivers in three different vehicle classes. These vehicles, over-the-road trucks, route trucks and oil trucks, are the same equipment that Safety-Kleen employees use everyday. The Safety-Kleen Driver Challenge will be broken down to five events with drivers competing in each of the three series on each occasion. The winner and runner-up for each series at each event will all proceed onto the finals in October.

Glen Thompson, vice president, recycle and accumulation services at Safety-Kleen, recognizes the importance of the safety message for the challenge and the impact the drivers at Safety-Kleen have at the company. “We want to spotlight the drivers who are the backbone of Safety-Kleen as a company,” said Thompson. “The Safety-Kleen Driver Challenge is a great way to promote safe driving and showcase their skills.”

Route Truck Series: 1st Place – Jason Porter, 2nd Place – Mark Grimm
